MOL Invests in 13 Mari, Developer of Ripple-shaped 'Flowsmart' Elements

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and Fukada Salvage & Marine Works have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore collaboration in the transportation and installation of floating offshore wind turbines in Japan. As Japan aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the development of floating offshore wind energy is crucial due to the country's limited shallow coastal areas. Floating wind turbines will be installed in deeper waters, including Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), which will improve the nation's energy self-sufficiency.

The collaboration will focus on efficient methods for transporting and installing these turbines, including the use of work vessels and mooring systems. MOL and Fukada plan to jointly develop new vessels for this purpose and establish a procurement framework for mooring systems. This partnership aims to support the growth of floating offshore wind energy in Japan, particularly in the 2030s, by minimizing risks and streamlining operations for power generation companies.
